Hormonal Imbalance in Women

Many women suffer from hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, low libido, and mood swings. These are often brushed off by doctors as just a part of life. For many of these women, these symptoms are severe and interfere with daily life and overall quality of life. The cause? Hormonal imbalance. Check out Char’s story below about how she found balance in her life.

As we age, hormone production naturally decreases. Some even start feeling the symptoms in their late 30’s, only to have doctors tell them they aren’t old enough to be going through menopause. But hormonal imbalance can begin long before menopause, and the suffering can last for many years if not treated.

“You’re not just tired all the time. The kids aren’t the reason why your sex drive is gone. And it may not be that you just have a poor ability to lose weight because you pick up the fork too often.

It’s your hormones.”

-Dr. Harris, 2018 TEDxDayton

Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance

Hot flashes, night sweats, depression, weight gain, mood swings, fatigue, low sex drive, and mental fogginess – all common symptoms many women feel! Contrary to popular belief, many of these symptoms begin BEFORE menopause starts. There are actually 3 stages to the menopause process: perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause.

Perimenopause

Perimenopause is the transition period leading to menopause. It is marked by the falling of estrogen and progesterone levels, and due to this many uncomfortable symptoms can begin to develop.

Menopause

Menopause is the end of periods and reproductive years. The ovaries no longer release eggs and hormone production is significantly decreased.

Postmenopause

Postmenopause is the time after menopause – by this time hormone levels have stabilized and symptoms improve.

I absolutely love my Dr.’s. I am very happy with the hormone replacement option provided to me as well as the healthcare. I have recommended the office to all of my family and friends

Dr. Andre Harris

Andre T. Harris Sr., MD, FACOG, has been serving Dayton, Ohio since he started his practice in 2006 with his wife Charlotte Harris, BSN. For years Charlotte suffered from symptoms from hormonal imbalance, so Dr. Harris decided to continue his education and training in hormones and hormone replacement therapy.

With pellet therapy Dr. Harris was able to get rid of his wife’s symptoms and in turn, greatly improved their lives and marriage. So in 2014 Horizons Hormones and Weight Loss joined the Horizons family. Since then Dr. Harris has been helping both men and women get back to feeling like they used to feel before hormonal imbalance.
